Overview

World Web Stories is a podcast that celebrates the global web community by featuring interviews with web professionals from different countries and backgrounds. The show explores how developers, designers, and tech entrepreneurs around the world approach their craft, build communities, and navigate the unique challenges of their local tech ecosystems.

Mission

The web connects people worldwide, yet most tech content focuses on experiences from a handful of countries. World Web Stories aims to:
  • Amplify diverse voices: Share stories from underrepresented tech communities
  • Bridge cultural gaps: Help listeners understand how web development differs across cultures
  • Inspire global thinking: Encourage developers to look beyond their local context
  • Build connections: Create a network of web enthusiasts across borders

Episodes

Prologue (March 17, 2021)

An introduction to the podcast where I explain the mission and what listeners can expect from future episodes.

Episode 1: Ahmer Yasin - A successful web entrepreneur from Pakistan (June 15, 2021)

Interview with Rana Ahmer Yasin, a software entrepreneur from Pakistan. We discussed:
  • Building a tech career in Pakistan's growing startup scene
  • Challenges and opportunities in the South Asian tech market
  • His journey from developer to entrepreneur
  • Insights into Pakistan's developer community

Episode 2: Sandeep Ramgolam - A passionate developer and community driver in Mauritius (July 6, 2021)

Conversation with Sandeep Ramgolam, a front-end developer from Mauritius. Topics covered:
  • The unique challenges of being a developer on a small island nation
  • Building and nurturing the local developer community
  • Remote work opportunities for developers in smaller markets
  • His passion for community-driven development

Why This Matters

Having lived and worked in multiple countries (France, Mauritius, Brazil, Canada), I've experienced firsthand how different the web development landscape can be depending on where you are. The tools might be the same, but the challenges, opportunities, and community dynamics vary dramatically.

Technical Stack

The podcast website is built with:
  • Gatsby: For fast, static site generation
  • Airtable: As a lightweight CMS for episode data
  • Netlify: For hosting and continuous deployment

Current Status

The podcast is currently on hold as I focus on other projects. However, the existing episodes remain available, and I hope to resume recording new episodes in the future. There are so many more stories to tell from web communities around the world.

Future Plans

When the podcast resumes, I'd like to:
  • Feature developers from more countries in Africa, Asia, and South America
  • Explore how AI is impacting global tech communities differently
  • Interview community builders and tech educators
  • Cover the growing remote work culture in various regions
